Reasons to Buy

1.Ten processors in a single unit
The FA-1010 is not simply 10 processors enclosed in a single housing, but 10 interconnected internal circuits. It implements all the various processors and clean switch functions required to build a system, and enables multi-channel signal processing on each channel with no cable connections. In addition, as ancillary and audio signal data are handled separately from video signals, concerns about ancillary data such as subtitles and time codes being erased can be allayed.

2.Powerful audio processing
With 16 channels of 3G/HD (synchronous/asynchronous) and SD-SDI*1 (synchronous) embedded audio on each input supporting up to 160 channels on all 10 inputs, a versatile array of signal processing is possible, including standard SDI embedding and de-embedding, and if an optional expansion card is installed, A/D and D/A conversion. The analog audio input option is equipped with a microphone head amplifier and phantom power, enabling direct condenser microphone input with no need for impedance conversion. The unit also includes sampling rate converters as well as various other processes such as level adjustment, delay adjustment, down-mixing*2, remapping, and polarity conversion.
*1 Audio SD-SDI output is 12-channel output
*2 Down-mixing supports only SDI-embedded audio signals

3.Space-saving form factor
With the capability of 10 processors fit into a 1U size, the FA-1010 provides a smaller equipment footprint. In addition, it is perfect for systems that handle a large number of inputs and outputs, such as network operation centers, and systems where equipment space is limited, such as mobile video production trucks.

4.Color correction function on each input
In addition to proc amp., the FA-1010 incorporates a color correction function, allowing color correction to be performed in three color correction modes, which offer a flexible color adjustment environment that includes gamma adjustment, clipping, and various level adjustment functions.

5.Inter-convertible 3G-SDI level-A/B signals on each input
Connectivity difficulties can arise when building a 3G-SDI system that mixes level-A and level-B-compatible products. The FA-1010 allows a system to be assembled that unifies the signals of either kind, with level-A/B input signals inter-convertible on each channel.

6.10×10 clean switch
The FA-1010 comes standard with 10×10 video and audio clean switches to route the ten output SDI signals after processing.

7.SDI I/O relay bypass
To cope with a power outage or emergency, the FA-1010 includes an I/O bypass function.

8.Powerful audio remapping
You can remap which audio signal channels to assign to each video or each audio channel. Up to 160 channels of audio signal can be freely re-mapped as standard, or up to 192 channels when optional cards are installed. Delay adjustment and polarity conversion are also available on each channel, allowing systems to be configured without any special audio processing equipment.

9.Usable as a 4K-compatible processor
A video channel link allows you to collectively control channel parameters you want linked. The FA-1010 offers a special 4K mode that uses this capability. 4K (QFHD) square division signals can be controlled as if they were one signal.

10.An abundance of control systems
The FA-10RU remote control unit provides dedicated access to the full features of the FA-1010 and can control up to 100 FA-1010s. One FA-1010 is also able to be controlled from multiple remote control units or GUIs at the same time (with up to ten concurrent connections possible).
The FA-10DCCRU remote control unit for color correction has inherited the traditional operating style of FOR-A’s color corrector series of products and offers direct access to a variety of parameters for smooth color adjustment.
The FA-AUX30 remote control panel facilitates access to the rich functionality of the FA-1010. Its switch box works over a GPI connection and can be used to freely assign router panel button functions to the 30 front panel buttons, and to assign shortcuts for each function. In addition, preset patterns are prepared in advance in the GPI settings, allowing you to begin using the FA-AUX30 immediately, with no detailed configuration required.

11.Easy-to-use GUI
The FA-1010 comes standard with a dedicated application that runs on Windows, providing full access to many functions, and allows a wide variety of settings. Web server functionality is also implemented in the main unit, allowing adjustments* to be made to various parameters from mobile and tablet devices.
* This feature is available for a limited number of function and parameters.

12.Efficient cooling system
The FA-505 is designed to offer efficient cooling during extended use. Air that is taken in through the front panel inlet holes cools the inside power supply and other components, and is exhausted through the side and rear panels. The air intake is pulled straight through the inside and out the exhaust vents for efficient cooling, reducing retention heat throughout the whole unit.
Features
Frame synchronizer
FOR-A’s frame synchronizers have always exhibited superior performance when processing poor quality video signals. Frame, Line, and AVDL synchronizer modes are available. Every mode allows both H and V ancillary data to be passed through*.
* Different input/output formats may limit the number of packets that can pass through.

Frame Sync mode
Aligns the output with a genlock signal and can be used whether or not the genlock signal and video input signal are synchronized.
Line Sync mode
Locks the output to a genlock signal within a range of ± 1/2 lines and can be used only when the video input and genlock signals are synchronized.
AVDL mode
Locks the output to a genlock signal with a constant time offset of 5H in HD and 1H in SD. The feature can only be used when the video input and genlock signals are synchronized.
Line Sync (Minimum) mode
Outputs the input signal with minimum delay. It can be used only when the video input and genlock signals are synchronized.
Proc. Amp.
Allows video, chroma and black levels and HUE to be adjusted. Individual channels are also able to be adjusted and to control multiple channels collectively via channel link. A split view function allows pre- and post-correction results to be examined.

Color corrector
FOR-A’s color corrector, with its proven track record in the broadcasting industry, comes standard on each channel. Three available color correction modes can be freely used on the ten input channels, with color adjustment performed alone or in groups. It is even possible to link channels while maintaining differences between parameters.

- Balance mode: Provides RGB color correction
- Differential mode: Provides color correction without upsetting white balance
- Sepia mode: Converts colors into a monotone or sepia
Each parameter comes with a Unity button, a familiar FOR-A color correction feature that allows parameters to be restored to their default state with the push of a button.
A split view function allows pre- and post-correction results to be examined. Also able to be used as a 4K color corrector in 4K mode.
Clip function
The FA-1010 has inherited another set of familiar FOR-A color corrector features, Y/PB/PR and RGB clip functions that allow color information to be kept within an optimal range.

- Y/PB/PR clip: Adjusts excessively bright or dark color information within a range using white and black clip functions while maintaining white balance.
- RGB clip: Adjusts excessively bright or dark color information within a range using white and black clip functions, compensating for unintended color information generated during recording.
Selector functions on SDI input and output
The FA-1010 comes with an SDI input and output selector function, allowing for the input processing path and output terminal to be selected.
Clean switch
The output unit comes equipped with a clean switch that delivers smooth changeover of both video and audio, free from noise and shock. Switching methods include Direct Mode, which allows direct crosspoint operation, Take Mode for switching multiple crosspoints using a single Take operation, and Salvo Mode, which saves and switches cross point settings all at once. Clean switching allows the FA-1010 to be utilized as a processing-based routing switcher.

Delay adjustment
The FA-1010 comes equipped with a frame buffer that stores up to 8 frames. Delay adjustments can be individually applied to each channel.

Input and output bypass
The FA-1010 comes equipped with a bypass function that allows video to bypass processing and be output in case of power failure or an emergency.

ANC MUX/DEMUX
Ancillary (ANC) signal that is superimposed on video signals are first isolated, then processed separately, from the processing circuits. Whether to have ANC data pass through directly on each channel, or to have the superimposed ANC data re-superimposed or left blank, can be selected.

Time code inserter/generator
In addition to inserting external LTC time codes, use of the internal time code generator can be selected. For each channel, select whether to Pass or comply with the external or internal TC. The built-in LTC connector can be used not only for external LTC input but also as the external output of the internal TC (selectable).

Test signal output
Each channel is able to output a 100%, 75% or SMPTE color bar, or Ramp signal as a test signal.

Event memory
Up to 100 different parameter settings are able to be saved in the internal event memory of the main unit. The settings data can be backed up and restored using a PC.

SNMP
SNMP is supported as standard and can even be used to monitor power supply, fan, and signal alarms.

Sixteen channels of embedded audio for each video line
16 channels of embedded audio per line of 3G/HD (synchronous/asynchronous) or SD-SDI* (synchronous) input supports up to 160 channels of powerful audio input processing on all 10 inputs.

Applications

1.Network operation centers
As a product capable of providing both functionality and space savings, the FA-1010 is an excellent choice for network operation centers, which handle a large number of video signals. With its ability to process as much as 10 channels of video signal in a 1U size profile, the FA-1010 can contribute to significant space savings. The unit possesses excellent audio processing capabilities, including an audio remapping function across 10 channels, and to effectively process consistently stable video, a number of features have been developed, including redundant power supply, SNMP status monitoring, and dedicated, integrated remote control.

2.Sub control rooms
There are significant benefits to incorporating what the FA-1010 offers into sub control room systems. In addition to frame synchronization, the FA-1010 implements numerous other features that are useful in the control room, 3G-SDI level-A/B conversion, color correction, delay adjustment, time code distribution, audio remapping, gain adjustment, and polarity reversal. Moreover, the FA-1010 offers these features across ten channels, and with respect to control, provides a stable working environment by means of remote control over dedicated hardware.

3.Mobile OB and Up-Link production trucks
With ten channels of processing in a single unit, the FA-1010 delivers significant benefits in systems where space savings are required, such as in mobile and Up-Link production trucks, and due to its multi-device functionality, contributes to a significant reduction in both rack space and power consumption. The FA-1010 offers a rich feature set that is useful in the field, including frame synchronization, color correction, delay adjustment, clean switching, time code generation and insertion, and various audio processing functions.

4.Events
Housed in a single unit, the FA-1010 greatly reduces the amount of peripheral equipment at event sites where portable equipment is used by playing the role of ten video and audio processors. For example, its color corrector can be used for color matching between cameras. In addition, because it comes with a clean switch function, an external remote unit allows the unit to be used as a simple switcher. By installing the analog audio option, it is possible to use and mix direct microphone input with other sounds, then embed the audio into video output. And even in multi-camera editing when using a large number of recorders, system assembly is simplified due to the time code and audio processing being implemented into a single unit.

5.Editing and MA
Today, as non-linear editing has become mainstream, video systems are simplifying the process. Conversely, because the workflow can now be too simple, there may be times when you run into trouble and think, “I wish I had that feature!” The FA-1010, which includes a comprehensive set of video and audio-related features in a single unit, gives you the flexibility to deal with those unforeseen situations that make you wish you had that feature!

6.4K systems
4K video production has begun. Preparing four processors to handle QFHD video can be a significant burden in terms of both equipment and costs. Just the cable work involved to connect each device requires considerable effort. The FA-1010 comes with a 4K mode, allowing it to work as two 4K (QFHD) video processors, and can be used as 4K-compatible frame synchronizers, as well as 4K color correctors. Various processing functions also allow it to be used the same was as in HD processing, and with 3G-SDI level-A/B conversion capability also standard, simplifies the assembly of systems that mix peripherals compatible with level-A or level-B.
