All Mobile Video equips new multi-camera portable production system with FOR-A switcher

April 13, 2009

WAYNE, New Jersey, April 13, 2009 - New York City-based All Mobile Video, provider of video and audio solutions for entertainment, sports, news programming, and events, recently built a multi-camera "EX3 Carrypack" portable production system anchored by a FOR-A HVS-500HS HANABI HD/SD Portable Digital Video Switcher. The EX3 Carrypack was used on its first project in March, a multi-camera studio production at AMV's Unitel Studio in Manhattan for a new MTV game show, Silent Library. The show was shot over a three-week period using Sony PMW-EX3 camcorders with Fujinon lenses.

According to Tom D'Angelo, Director of Rental Services for All Mobile Video, the FOR-A switcher was instrumental for the project: "The FOR-A HVS-500HS HANABI multi-format production switcher proved to be the perfect fit for our client's expectations. The switcher is powerful enough that we were able to reduce our requirements for still store, DVE, and router functionality from other suppliers. This translates into cost savings for AMV and thus our clients who rent this system."

Because the EX3 Carrypack is designed to provide high quality images and tapeless acquisition at an affordable price point, D'Angelo said the company was very careful about selecting the right components. "The goal was to provide high-quality, 1920x1080 multi-camera shoots at price points similar, or in many cases lower, than standard definition was just a short time ago," he explained. "We face economic challenges daily that demand we work more efficiently. The AMV EX3 Carrypack with the FOR-A HVS-500HS will help us do that."

The customizable HVS-500HS 1 M/E switcher features 10-bit, 4:2:2 internal processing and up to 12 inputs and seven outputs. The multi-format switcher supports various 1080i and 720p standards, and is switchable from NTSC to PAL. Other standard features include two still stores and a dedicated picture-in-picture function that enables the building of composites with up to two reduced-size screens without using DVEs.
